FTP Support

FTP is a protocol for managing and updating your site. Through a desktop program, you can connect to your website's server to upload new files and content.

Email Accounts

When you have your domain name, you can create email addresses underneath it - for instance 'me@mywebsite.com'. Our web hosting packages allow you to create a number of personalised email accounts which your customers can use to contact you.

You can access your email account(s) through a webmail based system, or configure a desktop email application (such as MS Outlook) to read and send your mail. Have a smartphone? You could also be able to receive and send your mail through your phone or tablet computer!

Database Support

SSL Certificate

For complex websites that intend to take credit card payments from customers, an SSL certificate is needed for security purposes. An SSL certificate allows a secure communication channel beween the web server (your website) and your customer's computer (the web client).

A shared SSL certificate means that multiple websites could use the same SSL certificate. Any of your webpages that process customer data would be accessible via a URL like https://secure-certicate.com/yourwebsite/secure_page.html

A dedicated SSL certiicate means that your customers would see your website name in the address bar when they are carrying out a transaction on your site, such as https://www.yourwebsite.com/secure_page.html. This allows your branding to remain intact.

SSL certificates are only required when you are processing customer data on your website.

Static/Dedicated IP Addresses

An IP address is simply a numberic value that corresponds to your website. So if your website is http://www.mywebsite.com, this can be represented as a numberic value such as 10.123.456.789.

A static IP address means that this number that corresponds to your website is always the same. A dynamic IP address means that the number assigned to your website could change over time.

In reality, either option is of little consequence as your website users will always access your site via your chosen web address (domain name).

The only time you might need to consider a static IP address is when you are processing customer data, in which case you may need both a static IP address and an SSL certificate.
